This is the Chicago Sun-Times?

Posted by David Hardy · 19 February 2008 02:21 PM

For the second time this week, I am thunder-struck:

"Daley unveils annual gun control legislation

Moved by the shooting deaths of five students at Northern Illinois University, Mayor Daley today unveiled his annual package of gun control legislation, even as a State Senate sponsor acknowledged that none of the bills could have prevented the tragedy."

"State Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) acknowledged that none of the bills would have prevented Steve Kazmierczak from opening fire on Valentine’s Day afternoon in a crowded NIU lecture hall."

"For 19 years, Daley has been beating his head against the wall on gun-control issues, stymied repeatedly in Springfield."

Sad situation at NIU. Taking away gun rights will not solve anything. Lives are saved everyday because people have a CCW and use it.

Not to bad but not the "knock me over with a feather" of earlier.... Getting there though...

Less law abiding gun owners does not equal less crime. Just look at Washington DC. Allowing students and faculty to legally carry concealed handguns is the only thing that will ever affect these horrible incidents by reducing casualties and stopping the shooter before police can arrive on the scene.

Watch the video on the Chicago Tribune sight. They actually used the phrase "so called common sense laws" and noted that Daley stopped talking when asked if any of his proposals would have stopped the shooter.

Adding to ThirdPower's comment, the reporter also used the term "gun reform" instead of "gun control." I was a bit incensed at Sen. Cullerton's remarks, claiming there was no "slippery slope" and saying that they don't want to take anyone's guns away...that they only want to regulate use. Bills pending include outright bans on .50 BMG and certain characteristic-defined semiautos. However, those bills have grandfather language so technically, they don't "take away" any currently owned firearms.

In the past, the so-called "gun show loophole" has been talked up, with a measure passed requiring BG checks on all private sales at gun shows. So...they closed that "loophole" in IL. Remember that there is no slippery slope, but now Daley is supporting a measure to require BG checks on ALL private sales (despite the BG check required to obtain a FOID card).

There is no pleasing these folks. If we compromise on these things today, we can rest assured that they will ask us to compromise again next year, and the year after that, ad infinitum.

Finally, in the vid, did anyone notice the milled receiver AK rifle at the lower right? I can't see much of the magazine, but it appeared to be inserted backwards into the mag well..... I am so glad those folks know what they are doing.

Perhaps the fakery of the Obama campaign (He can say nothing better than anyone else in the game...and Michelle IS PROUD of that) may be stirring some reporters to take a closer look at poseurs like Daly.

I'm Shocked... Shocked, I tell you...

Surely hizoner wouldn't use such a tragedy to promote his personal agenda...

Chris, if hizzoner thought it would get him what he wants he would have shot them himself.
