Debate between Prof. Volokh & Chas. Blek of Brady Campaign

Posted by David Hardy · 6 January 2009 07:39 AM

Podcast here. BTW, it was hosted by the Los Angeles chapter of Federalist Society and the Libertarian Law Society. Their next event involves a presentation by Judge Alex Kozinski and David Lat (of the Above the Law blog) on Jan. 13. RSVP to la.fedsoc@gmail.com.

Volokh is a stud. He speeks it straight. I especially liked is argument about suicides in the home. He basically stated if the Bradys want to reduce that number through gun control the only effective means is a total gun ban.

I was only able to listen to the first Blek presentation.
Conspicuous by its absence was anything actual or factual.
The heartstring-playing stuff is fine as far as it goes, but it doesn't go anywhere when reality is at stake.
All I could think of, listening to the prattle about "gun violence" being a "disease" was: hubris. Humans have faced violent evil for their entire existence; what nerve to suggest that a handful of high-thinkers could suddenly, after a million years, come up with this stuff and hold it out as the True Solution.
I guess I always have trouble accepting my intellectual betters.

A little ho-hum for me. But it's clear that the Brady's will continue to pursue ANYTHING they can possibly get through ... up to and including total bans. Volokh was sure right about that.

The Bleks (both Mary Leigh and Charles) are notorious for their conduct in Sacramento legislative offices.

They're hectoring, raise their voices and often come near to being ejected from the office by leg staffers (or security being called).

They actually serve our cause nicely, as they've done nothing to get any traction and alienate a fair fraction of whom they try to lobby.
